For all you lovely Jews out there, we hope you have an easy fast! May the odds be ever in your favor… to hold out until sundown.
Silver Linings Playbook starring Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, and Robert Dinero, was the best movie I’ve seen in theaters all year. It reminded me a great deal of Garden State (aka my favorite movie of all time). I laughed, I teared, I cringed. I have to say I was very weary about seeing Jennifer Lawrence sans bow and arrow but WOW. Award winning performance. The most memorable moments for me are listed below. *SPOILERS* do not read past this point if you don’t want the movie ruined.
9 Memorable Moments. The Good, the Bad, the Hilarious.
1. In one of the beginning scenes, Bradley Cooper’s character is wearing a necklace. His dad pulls it out of his shirt to look at it. In that scene, I was focused on it because I assumed it was of importance. With every cut, the necklace was somewhere else. Inside the shirt, outside shirt, back and forth. The shirt was buttoned, the shirt was unbuttoned. Horrible editing skills.
2. The token black guy. He was funny and added comedic relief when needed but really? Aren’t we past having minorities type casted in these roles? That annoyed me a bit.
3. Surprise appearance by Julia Styles! I wish she had more of a prominent role, I really adore her.
4. There is a part when Jen and Bradley are runnning (they run a lot) and she runs into this grassy area which seemed jungle like to me. I wanted to scream BEWARE OF THE CAREERS. But then they were back on a road. Damn you, Hunger Games.
5. The dance scene. Classic and amazing.
6. I learned what a parlay means (did I spell that right? probably not).
7. This is the most talented I’ve ever seen Robert Dinero. His anger, OCD, love…all of it..just so beautifully displayed.
8. The last scene.
“You wrote this a week ago?”
“You knew I was lying to you for over a week?”
“I wanted to be romantic” . Ugh. SWOON.
9. Dear Bradely Cooper. You are a sexy sexy man and I want to do bad things to you. He didn’t need to say a word and I would’ve loved him in this film. On the negative, he was never naked. GIMME NUDITY PEOPLE.

If you were a child of the 90’s you know all about the magic of Beanie Babies. Why they were popular, I don’t know. I do know that I still have the Princess Diana Beanie Baby sitting in my mother’s china cabinet because one day it will be worth something, right?!? Well, some people don’t feel that way and have decided to put their Beanie Babies to good use and I must say… I approve!
Since The Hunger Games is the biggest thing since sliced bread at the moment, there is no better way to pay homage than to create a parody using… Beanie Babies! Please take 11 minutes to make your life a little happier. Even if you haven’t read the books, you can still appreciate this. (Yes, President Snow is played by the Princess Di BB)
This weekend The Hunger Games came out in theaters. It is an understatement to say that this film was highly anticipated. After reading the book (3 times) I may have been a little excited. And I may or may not have put a countdown to the movie in my Google Calendar. ANYWAY, the movie came out and overall I thought it was a great movie! Was it the book? NO. But you can’t go in expecting it to be as awesome as the book. Here’s what you see, what you don’t, and what additions the movie will give you. Spoiler alert! Stop reading if you don’t want me to ruin this for you.
What You See
You will be happy to know that Rue gets a proper death. They really showed how much Katniss was hurting and of course Rue’s flowers.
Glimmer also got a proper death and is it bad that I enjoyed it?! There weren’t as many hallucinations but she was massacred by those tracker jackers!
HAYMITCH was awesome. He was a little nicer than in the books but I think Woody Harrelson was perfectly cast.
The scene everyone was waiting for… the berries. It was all sorts of dramatic and even though they didn’t actually eat them, the point was made.
What You Won’t See
Disclaimer: This section was a lot easier to write! The movie was 2 hours and 33 minutes but they still needed to leave out a bunch. Here is the stuff I really missed.
The story of the Avox girl was missing. They mentioned something about losing your tongue but nothing about the girl. I guess Darrius won’t be in the second movie…
Katniss left for the feast but didn’t use any sleeping potion. Peeta just slept and believed her lie… #lame.
In fact, the whole cave was ridiculous. Where were my hot and steamy cave scenes?! We got a couple of weak kisses and a little snuggling. Haymitch would not have been pleased. Honestly, I don’t even think Katniss liked him. It was no convincing.
When they announced that two victors could live I was waiting for the big yell…. but it never came. Whispering “Peeta” is not the same as yelling “PEETA!!!!!!”
The mutts at the end were just.. mutts. They didn’t have the eyes of any of the old tributes. I thought they would be scarier.
They really built a Seneca Cane story. We didn’t get that in the book at all but I really liked it. Especially the way he died. It shows how evil President Snow is!
After Rue’s death we get to see the uprising in 11. What a powerful scene!!! To hear about it in the book and to see it are totally different things!
Gale’s reaction to the games is also something we don’t see in the book. Honestly, I hate to say that I may be #TeamGale in the movies (Don’t worry, I’m #TeamPeeta in the books). I just thought they were so clearly in love and should obviously be together.
In the book, Katniss understands Haymitch based on the timing of the gifts. I think the director was right to think that would be hard to translate. Haymitch’s messages that came with the gifts were a nice touch.
Like I said… it wasn’t the book. BUT it was an awesome movie!

Hi Dawn. Let’s be best friends! While I don’t know you, I did stalk your bat-mitzvah photos on the Internet and I fell in love. While searching for fun things to pin, I stumbled across cool bat mitzvah themed parties. Back in the day, I had a candy themed party and it was AWESOME. However, if I could do it all over again, I may have copied Dawn’s idea.
Dawn (this girl from the Internet I never met) had a Hunger Games themed party complete with a firey DJ booth, care packages falling from sky with bread and spiles, and girl on fire center pieces. Some pics are below but to see the full story click here.
Every day, every minute, every second, the Hunger Games gets closer and closer. And with every day comes another teaser to get the fans excited. They have already release 3 different trailers, 13 Facebook pages, a Twitter account, and a Tumblr. What else is left??? A music video of course! And with my favorite country cutie, Taylor Swift!
When I heard she would be playing a song on the soundtrack I was VERY excited. Now that the video is out, even more so. I really wish there was more of a Hunger Games tie in with the video. I did love the subtly of the mockingjay pin though. See for yourself!
Did you like the new music video? Let me know!

Last year, the amount of buzzworthy movies was pretty slim (I know this because of all the terrible choices nominated for Oscars). This year however, I think we will have better luck in the movie department. Already there are a slew of movies I cannot wait to see. Here are the top ten movies (in order) that I am dying to see!
Yes it has finally arrived! We were given a 15 second teaser that showed us absolutely nothing but now we get the full length trailer and we will not be disappointed. It looks like they show the whole beginning of the movie but I trust that there are more surprises in store. See for yourself!
Getting excited for March 23rd when the movie comes out? Me too!

WOW. That is all I can say when I think of how amazing The Hunger Games was. All three books took me a mere week to read through. I have never chosen a book over a television show before, until now. I never sat and cried like a baby over a book, until now. Instead of gushing over the amazingness of this book, I will try to convince you to read it by giving you a brief overview of what it is about.
Katniss Everdeen lives in Panem where the Capitol rules and the districts suffer. Many years ago the districts tried to rebel against the Capitol to gain power, but they lost and are now punished every year by this thing called the Hunger Games. Two children are chosen from each district to participate in the Hunger Games. The objective is to fight to the death so there is one winner. In the Capitol, this is a fun reality television show. In the districts, it’s a death sentence. Intrigued??? If you haven’t read the book STOP READING! Spoilers below!
The Hunger Games
In the first book, Katniss volunteers to go into the games instead of her little sister, Prim. Best friend Gale stays to take care of her family and the second tribute is Peeta, a baker’s son. Katniss and Peeta decide that being allies is a good strategy for the game but then Peeta confesses his love for her and they go with this act instead. The romance of Peeta and Katniss is amazing. It is sad that one will eventually have to kill the other. Of course they don’t and they threaten a double suicide rather than killing one another. The Capitol folds and both are allowed to leave the games alive (yay!). After the games Katniss reveals that her love was an act (yea right) but Peeta’s was not and there is a riff. Ok, this is a VERY simplified version of an amazing book. I don’t want to give away too many details!
We pick up book two right after Katniss is back from the game. Apparently her suicide stunt caused a stir in the districts and talks of a possible rebellion against the Capitol. President Snow is not happy about this and has threatened to kill her whole family if Katniss doesn’t put the fire out of this flame. To stunt her more, Snow introduces that this next Hunger Games would be an “all star” version which inevitably sends Katniss back to the hunger Games with Peeta. The other players have a hidden agenda though and plan to start a rebellion while in the game. Katniss and Peeta are left in the dark and separated. The book ends with Katniss being rescued and Peeta being taken prisoner by the Capitol.
The final book is all about the rebellion. There is a full fledged war between the districts and the Capitol. The Capitol is using Peeta as their mascot and the rebels are using Katniss of the symbol of hope. All you want is for the two of them to get together but of course there is always Gale to think about in the love triangle. So many people you love die and it is of course, the product of war. When we finally get Peeta back, he has been brainwashed and trained to kill Katniss which is horrifying in and of itself. The war rages on and there are MANY casualties but in the end the rebels win and Katniss fixes everything. She ends up marrying Peeta but is forever haunted by the games and the deaths of her loved ones.
For a while, all I could do was be depressed. There is barely a happy ending here and it make me want to cry over and over again. After a few days to think about it, I guess this is the best they could have hoped for. Some of the deaths will shock you and the trillions of details I have left out really make this series very special. Take a week out of your life and read these books! I promise you won’t regret it.
P.S. The movie is coming out in March, so read it before then!
