My favorite part of Halloween is making my own costume. This year I decided to be a minion from the movie Despicable Me. I have a knack for taking things that wouldn’t necessarily be cute (i.e. costumes for boys) and making them awesome. Take a look at the world’s easiest costume.
You need the following:
Denim shorts/pants (or overalls)
Suspenders (not needed if you have overalls)
Needle and thread
Google and a printer
Let’s start with the eyes since this essentially the whole costume. If you google “minion eyes” you will get a ton of results. Print out one (or two) and cut it out.
Take your solo cup and cut it down to the first line. You can then glue your eye(s) into the cup. Next, grab your headband. We need to attach the solo cup to the headband. You can do this with staples but I chose to sew them in!
Boom. Your eyes are done. Now we need a Gru logo so there is no mistake of which villain you work for. I found the logo online (google!) and printed it out. I then pinned it to some felt and cut out the shape. You’ll need both black and white felt for this. One sheet of each from Michaels is more than enough!
Once you have cut out your logo, you can safety pin or sew it to your yellow shirt (or front of your overalls if you have them). Put everything on and…. TADA!
You’re a minion! Are you adorable? CHECK! Did you spend a lot of money? NOPE! Congrats and happy Halloween!
Boy has this been a crazy summer. Between vacations, movies in the park, shows, wine tastings, concerts, etc.I just don’t want it to end! For some reason, we have this idea in our head that we can only do fun things when the weather is nice. True, you can’t hangout at rooftop bars or in parks or at the beach when it’s cold out. But this doesn’t mean we have to be boring now that summer is coming to a close. Check out all the fun things coming up in the next few months!
1. Broadway Week. 2 for 1 tickets? Yes please! I saw a new show, First Date, with some friends. With prices like that, who knows what else I’ll see!
2. Halloween. Best. Holiday. Ever. You better get your costumes ready to go because this will be creeping up on you sooner than you know.
3. Oscars Season. Ahhh the most wonderful time of the year! Okay, so we are done with the summer blockbusters, but soon all the serious movies will be coming out and we can get our Oscars pools ready.
4. Festivals/Fairs. Apple picking! Renaissance fairs! Pumpkin patched! Get excited people… there’s more to fall than your pumpkin spice lattes.
Bonus: Living Social Events. This site is always chock-full-of events and cool things to do. I often peruse the site to get cool ideas of what to do next!
Time is running out! You better get your act together and figure out what you’re going to be for Halloween this year. Sure you can run to Party City and be a “slutty [insert profession here]” or you can be creative and make something (don’t worry, it can still be slutty). Below are some DIY costumes from friends of mine. Hopefully we spark some inspiration! Also, check out last year’s blog here for some of my oldies but goodies!
Kate Gosselin, Max from Where the Wild Things Are, Beatnik, Alice
I love Halloween. I especially love stalking people’s photos on Facebook after the fact. Whether the person is your best friend or not, for some reason I just need to know EVERYONE’S costume ideas! This year there were a lot of Black Swans, Pan Am Flight Attendants, and the ever popular policeman, firefighters, etc. What surprised me were the lack of Kate Middletons and other pop culture references from this year. This year it snowed which made it difficult to go out. However I still managed to at least get on a costume. This year I was…
Doug Funnie! And my best friend Jenna was Skeeter.
What were you this Halloweekend? What were some of the best costumes you saw? Let me know!
AHHH!!! Halloween is around the corner and you don’t have anything to wear! Sure, you could always grab a belt and be Quailman but I’m sorry boys… it’s been done! And ladies, you don’t want to be that girl who just slapped on a pair of bunny ears to your slutty black outfit, do you? Now’s the time to think of something cute and witty (and low budget) to be this year. And IMHO, don’t get a costume from Party City because I guarantee you will bump into 12 other police officers and race car drivers while you are out. You don’t want to be wearing the same costume as someone else! I have not yet decided on what I will be but here are some cute costumes I found that seem to be pretty low budget and some of my past costumes too!
The cast of Dexter!
Peter Pan & Captain Hook 2010
Woody & Buzz 2011
What are you going to be for Halloween this year? Let me know if you have any good costume ideas!
