Mastering An Amusement Park

Calm. Laid back. Go with the flow. All things that don’t describe me. I like planning. Strategy. Having things figured out beforehand. One place where this is absolutely ESSENTIAL is amusement parks.

In order to get the most bang for your buck, you want to hit all the rides and attractions that pique your interest. Missing even one can be catastrophic because it’s not like you’re headed to your favorite amusement park every weekend.

Here’s the go-to check list for making sure you master your amusement park visit:

1. Get there when they open. You want to have the most amount of time possible and you want a good parking spot. Not to mention, it’s less crowded early in the morning which leads me to number two…

2. Go to the best ride, first. This is likely the ride that will have hour long lines. Hell to the no. Nobody has time for that. Instead, go to this ride first and experience the shortest line you can possibly get.

3. Plan ahead. You have to know what you want to do. There is tons to do at the park. Do you want to hit all the coasters? Go to a cool restaurant? See a show? Whatever it is, make sure you know and plan ahead.

4. Prioritize with a map in hand. Once you know what you want to hit while at the park, prioritize. In the unlikely event that you DON’T make it down your list in full, what would be okay to miss? Schedule that last.

5. Save the gift shop until the end. In case you didn’t notice, amusement parks like to take your money. With that being said, gift shops are almost always open past the rides. Save your trip to the gift shop for last. You will ALWAYS have a chance to buy some souvenirs.

6. Use your line-waiting time wisely. While we can plan to our hearts content, we cannot control the lines. Use the time in which you have to stand still wisely. Take out your little map and figure out where you’re going next. Know where this ride exits. Know how to get to the next one. Don’t end up wasting time being lost.

7. Don’t eat at fancy amusement park restaurants. Yes, there are exceptions to this rule ::cough cough:: Three Broomsticks at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter ::cough cough:: but for the most part, don’t waste your time (and money). Grab some tenders, eat them quick, and get back out there!

What tips do you have at the park?

Movie Review: Oz The Great And Powerful

I have finally seen the long awaited Oz The Great and Powerful! This movie has been surrounded by a lot of hype and an all star cast that I was excited to see in a Disney flick. The story was about how the Wizard of Oz came to be the wizard and what he had to do to claim his throne. Overall, I thought it was a good movie. It was beautiful to watch, the overall story was fun, and it kept my attention the whole time. However, I had some major issues with the film:

1. Mila Kunis
Why, Mila, why? I normally LOVE Mila Kunis. In fact, I can’t think of any movie I have ever seen her in that I really didn’t like. However, her acting in this movie was pretty damn awful. For the first half of the movie she was tolerable. The second half of the movie was cringe-worthy. I don’t know if it was her voice, the fact that Mila isn’t scary, or maybe it was the general acting – but something was off and it was actually distracting.

2. James Franco
To be fair, I never like James Franco. Sure, he’s cool in Freaks and Geeks but I just find him to be pompous and annoying in general. The character of Oz is meant to be obnoxious and unlikeable at first but James’ extreme overacting didn’t help. I understand that for Disney, it’s okay to be over the top BUT this was just too much. He was offensive and cannot carry a big blockbuster hit like this.

Other than that, the movie was good! Go see it and let me know what you think!

Top 9 Most Memorable Moments in Costa Rica

From December 28th – January 5th, I was living in paradise. My boyfriend invited me on his family vacation to Costa Rica where we spent 5 days in the jungle wilderness near the Arenal volcano and 3 days on the beautiful Tamorindo beach. I could probably write a book about my experience there, but instead this blog will feature my top 9 memorable moments. Here they are (in no particular order)

1. The time I saw a sloth
While waiting on the ziplining platform pretending to be calm before the next line, our guide spotted a tiny sloth sitting in the tree next to us. He sat there with the cutest grin on his face, and watched as each person made their way down the zipline, following them with his eyes and then facing back at us on the platform waiting for the next person to go. I felt like he wanted us all to be safe. As if he was saying “hello there. just bein’ a sloth makin’ sure you have fun on the zipline. oh okay you’re gone? next. i gots nowhere to go.”

2. The time the Quatis crossed the road
We took a 4 hour car ride from the arenal to the beach. I was dreading it. BUT to my surprise, it was a great car ride and on the way we spotted a group of 15-25 quatis crossing the road looking for food. Quatis are the Costa Rican version of a squirrel but they are not as scary and not as ugly and just wanna noms.

3. The time I cried
There was one day at the arenal we had no adventure planned. We spent the day wandering around the town of La Fortuna, shopping and eating. We stopped at a local pastry shop where my sweet tooth took control. I picked out this flaky pastry looking thing filled with I don’t know what and topped with powdered sugar. One bite in, I felt myself get choked up. The entire family sat wide-eyed as I devoured that pastry as if my life depended on it. I started to laugh and then cry…both out of pure amusement at my behavior and disbelief at how DELICIOUS this pastry was. The moment was caught on camera that I have yet to see…

4. The time army ants became my worst fear
Has anyone ever seen a group of army ants? I have. If you step into them, they can crawl over your body, into all your holes, and kill you. This moment of fear will never leave my memory.

5. The time I kicked a stranger in the balls
As if ziplining wasn’t exciting enough (I felt like I was flying), I had to make it just that more amazing by kicking our guide in the balls. How did I manage that? You have to jump up for them to release your hook and line from the rope. I kicked my feet out and met his package. Upon my apology he responded “Thanks, now I can never have a family”. Shari Donk – preventing Costa Rican babies one ball sack at a time.

6. The time I “shit” my pants
One morning was spent on a hanging brides tour through the jungle. We hiked down to a waterfall where I wanted to take a super cute couple picture with my boyfriend on a rock near the falls. It had been pouring rain all day. Rain + dirt = mud. So, when my foot slipped off the rock, my ass found its way into a huge pile of mud. It literally looked like I shit myself and couldn’t clean it off for about 40 minutes when the tour was over.

7. The time I felt like a Disney Princess
You know how in Disney movies all the princess have animal friends who sing and follow them around and dance and are the happiest animals alive? I had a group of 3 or 4 little birds who followed the side of the boat tour we were on – chirping away and I swear one of them was holding a tiny cloth to clean the boat with. Just call me Princess Donk.

8. The time I wanted to freeze frame my life
This happened maybe 10 times throughout the week but the one that stands out the most is during the ATV ride. It was raining for 3 days straight and the sky was finally clearing up. I looked over to my left and saw my first clear view of the Arenal volcano. Breathtaking.

9. The time I saw Orion’s belt
Seeing stars in NYC is a very very rare occurrence so any time I do get a clear view of them it’s a momentous occasion  In Costa Rica, we were taking a nighttime stroll on the beach and I was able to point out Orion’s belt, which is in a completely different location in the sky as it is in the USA.

An Ode To Tom Hanks

Disclaimer: Things are about to get weird.

I love this man. He has brought so much joy to my life. He is consistently good in everything. He can do comedy, drama, animation, parody, etc. My love for Tom extends irrationally. For example, I love everything Colin Hanks is in (even though he’s not a very good actor) just because he is Tom’s son. I saw Larry Crowne even though it was painfully obvious that it wasn’t going to be a good movie. I read The Da Vinci Code because he stars in it! The man is planning on playing Walt Disney! Only a true genius loved by all can pull that off.

Before this gets weird (oops… too late) I am going to highlight some of my favorite Tom moments so we can relive them together.

Toy Story 1-3
You can’t see his face but if you close your eyes you can picture him walking around Andy’s room bossing around all the other toys. These movies are nothing short of epic and Tom leads the way.

Toddlers and Tiaras with Tom Hanks
Instead of trying to explain it, I figured you can just see for yourself…

That Thing You Do
Dooo. Do that thing you dooo. I want to sing that to Tom. You do that thing Tom! Keep making awesome movies! Keep up with Playtone!

I think FAO Schwartz should thank Tom for all that he has done for them. He put them on the map! Okay they may have been slightly popular before them but cmon! This scene goes down in history!

You’ve Got Mail
He made Internet dating cool! F-O-X.

A League of Their Own
Thank goodness TBS appreciates Tom Hanks as much as I do because I get to watch this movie all the time thanks to them.

Forrest Gump
A movie that defines a generation! I would argue that if you asked 10 people what their favorite movies are, half of them would include Forrest Gump on the list.

I think I need to stop myself now before I get carried away. In fact, there may be a “Part 2” to this blog coming soon because I have so many more things to say about this man.

Epic Movie Quotes: Up

Ever feel like you just want to change the subject? Admittedly it would be easier if you were a dog like in the clip below but it doesn’t mean you can’t use this quote in your everyday life. Just know that you will get weird looks thrown your way…

What’s your favorite movie quote? Share below with a clip and it will be featured in an upcoming blog!

12 Movies To See Before The End of 2012

Summer movies were a bust this year. Yea, we started off strong but right now we are experiencing somewhat of a movie slump. In order to lift my spirits I decided to go through the rest of the movies planning on coming out this year and I was not disappointed. There are 12 movies I need to see that are coming out by the end of this year and here’s why:

1. 10 Years – September 14
Looks cheesy and click-flicky but the cast is awesome and I’m going to end up seeing in it secret.

2. Perks of Being A Wallflower – September 20
Besides the fact that I read the book, I would never miss Hermoine’s Emma Watson‘s return to the big screen.

3. Trouble With The Curve – September 21
Baseball. Clint Eastwood. Amy Adams. Yup, I’m in.

4. Looper – September 28
I trust Joseph Gordon-Levitt‘s judgement. If he has chosen this movie, I’m sure it will be good.

5. Won’t Back Down – September 28
I don’t really know why I want to see this. I saw it on a commercial while watching Lifetime so maybe I’m just a sucker for a tear-jerker.

6. Pitch Perfect – October 5
Glee in movie form! Plus Rebel Wilson is hilarious.

7. Butter – October 5
This movie is about a butter sculpting competition. HELLO?! WHO WOULDN’T WANT TO SEE THIS?

8. Seven Psychopaths – October 12
Someone stole Woody Harrelson‘s dog and chaos ensues. Sounds good.

9. Argo – October 12
The highly anticipated Ben Affleck movie. This is probably the only movie on this list what will make me think.

10. Wreck-It Ralph – November 2
I don’t remember the last time I was so excited to see a movie. I’ve seen a ton of trailers and have hyped this movie up so much. It’s Disney, animated, and about video games. I might faint.

11. Rise Of The Guardians – November 21
Don’t mess with Santa and the Easter bunny. They are going to kick your ass in this movie.

12. This is 40 – December 21
The sort of sequel to Knocked Up and I love Paul Rudd.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Christmas movies were announced and I have to add to this list but it looks like I’m going to be pretty busy for the rest of my weekends.

What are you looking forward to see?

The Dark Knight… I Mean The Lion King Rises

Anyone with a pulse knows that The Dark Knight Rises is the biggest movie since…. well, The Dark Knight. With anyone popular movie comes lots of fun parodies. This one caught my eye considering how much I love Disney movies. It’s so accurate, it’s crazy.

What’s your favorite movie parody? Share below!

Trailer: Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph!

I often get excited about movies coming up but I am particularly psyched for this one. Wreck-It Ralph is one of Disney’s many animated movies coming out this year. It stars John C. Reilly where he plays the bad guy in a video arcade game. Apparently, being the bad guy doesn’t mean you’re a bad guy. See what I mean below!

How awesome does this movie look?! Let me know if you’ll go see it!

WOOHOO! After 11 years, we are finally going to be blessed with the Monsters Inc. sequel! Looks like it is called Monsters University and it comes out Summer 2013. I am so excited to have Mike, Sully, and the gang back! Check out the teaser trailer Pixar released this week.

Are you excited for the sequel?! I AM! Let me know your thoughts below.

It’s My Birthday And I’ll Pin If I Want To!

That’s right folks… it is my birthday! I happen to love birthdays (not just my own) and pretty much any reason to celebrate! Considering my obsession with Pinterest and the fact that Pinterest allows you to pin for the party you’ll never have (and can never afford) I decided to describe my dream birthday party in pins for all of you. Maybe you can use some of these party ideas IRL.

You are cordially invited to my awesome birthday party… Harry Potter style!

Every good party should have good party games. In my opinion, Battle Shots is wildly appropriate.

Babies of the 80’s should have treats that reflect that. My guests can enjoy 80’s themed cupcakes.

At my fictional birthday party, it is warm in mid-March! And that is why we will be playing lawn twister.

No party is complete without a gorgeous Disney-inspired cake!

Thanks for attending my Pinterest-inspired, utterly disjointed, fictional birthday bash!

That was fun! What would you have at your dream party? Let me know!
